Sacrificial Offerings 3 - Offences!

O ffences!

Luke 17:1-4 Then he said unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn to thee, saying I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

The Greek word for offences is skandalon, from which the English word scandal is derived. It is the trigger of a trap on which the bait is placed that springs the trap when the bait is touched by the animal, causing the trap to close.

It is by not dealing with offences correctly, that many of God’s people find themselves in prison!

Matthew 5:25, 26 Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

Matthew 6:14, 15 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your father forgive your trespasses.

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
