L eviticus 3:1-17; 7:11-21

And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offer it of the herd; whether it be a male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the Lord. And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering, and kill it at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron’s sons the priests shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about. And he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace offering an offering made by fire unto the Lord; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards. And the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away. And Aaron’s sons shall burn it on the altar upon the burnt sacrifice, which is upon the wood that is on the fire: it is an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord. And if his offering for a sacrifice of peace offering unto the Lord be of the flock; male or female, he shall offer it without blemish. If he offer a lamb for his offering, then shall he offer it before the Lord. And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering, and kill it before the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron’s sons shall sprinkle the blood thereof round about the altar. And the shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace offering an offering made by fire unto the Lord; the fat thereof, and the whole rump, it shall he take off hard by the backbone; and the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards, And the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away. And the priest shall burn it upon the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire unto the Lord. And if his offering be a goat, then he shall offer it before the Lord. And he shall lay his hand upon the head of it, and kill it before the tabernacle of the congregation: and the sons of Aaron shall sprinkle the blood thereof upon the altar round about. And he shall offer thereof his offering, even an offering made by fire unto the Lord; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards, And the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away. And the priest shall burn them upon the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savour: all the fat is the Lord’s. It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.

And this is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he shall offer unto the Lord. If he offer it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, of fine flour, fried. Besides the cakes, he shall offer for his offering leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace offerings. And of it he shall offer one out of the whole oblation for a heave offering unto the Lord, and it shall be the priest’s that sprinkleth the blood of the peace offerings. And the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day that it is offered; he shall not leave any of it until the morning. But if the sacrifice of his offering be a vow, or a voluntary offering, it shall be eaten the same day that he offereth his sacrifice: and on the morrow also the remainder of it shall be eaten: But the remainder of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burnt with fire. And if any of the flesh of his sacrifice of his peace offerings be eaten at all on the third day, it shall not be accepted, neither shall it be imputed unto him that offereth it: it shall be an abomination, and the soul that eateth of it shall bear his iniquity. And the flesh that toucheth any unclean thing shall not be eaten; it shall be burnt with fire: and as for the flesh, all that be clean shall eat thereof. But the soul that eateth of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, that pertain unto the Lord, having his uncleanness upon him, even that soul shall be cut off from his people. Moreover the soul that shall touch any unclean thing, as the uncleanness of man, or any unclean beast, or any abominable unclean thing, and eat the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which pertain unto the Lord, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.

This is the third offering in order in the book of Leviticus: the last in observance. This fact portrays that peace is achieved by doing that which God requires! Man’s need is met by fulfilling God’s requirements.

The Hebrew definition of peace is, prosperity, joy, welfare and happiness.

This offering was universal, that it, common to all, irrespective of social standing, (sin), behaviour, (trespass), affluence, (burnt), and property, (meal).

It shows reconciliation.

Either bullock, (strong, patient); lamb, (meek, gentle); or goat, (despised, rejected). All reveal specific characteristics of the Once For All offering of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Birds were unacceptable.

No fat.

Insufficient for all involved to partake, (God, priest, worshipper and family, servants and friends).

Either male or female. Friendship, relationship, intimacy. Sin separates and therefore destroys this social requirement.

3 + 2 Three subdivisions of the peace offering:

Thank Offering

Vow and Promise

Freewill

Wave Offering (Breast)

Heave Offering (Shoulder)

Completeness: spirit, soul and body.

This was the most joyous of all the offerings.

The drink offering. Jesus pouring out His life in joyful surrender to the will of God. Praise and Worship. It also shows the outpoured life of the believer.

Plus meal offering. Plus salt.

The peace offering typifies the offering of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Luke 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

World peace will never be realised with the rejection of the Prince of Peace!

Hebrews 7:2 To whom Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Ephesians 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

Isaiah 26:3  Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

This offering is symbolic of reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

The same ministry is declared to the disciples of Jesus Christ:

2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as God did beseech you by us; we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

F ellowship With God

God, the priest and the offerer ate and fellowshipped together!

Deuteronomy 12:5-7,17,18 But unto the place which the Lord our God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come; And thither ye shall bring your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and heave offerings of your hand, and your vows, and your freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your herds and of your flocks: And there ye shall eat before the Lord your God, and ye shall rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein the Lord thy God hath blessed thee. Thou mayest not eat within thy gates the tithe of thy corn, or of thy wine, of thy oil, or the firstlings of thy herds or of thy flock, nor any of thy vows which thou vowest, nor thy freewill offerings, or heave offering of thine hand: But thou must eat them before the Lord thy God in the place which the Lord thy God shall choose, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and they maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates: and thou shalt rejoice before the Lord thy God in all that thou puttest thine hands unto.

Here the vital importance of the local church is seen. The offering must be eaten where the Lord has chosen to place his name.

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

G od’s Portion

Leviticus 3:14-16 And he shall offfer thereof his offering, even an offering made by fire unto the Lord; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards, And the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away. And the priest shall burn them upon the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savour: all the fat is the Lord's.

Suet. Protects various organs of the body, is a source of warmth and feeds the whole body. It denotes energy or life source.

This is the portion of the animal God wanted and likewise wants from His people today.

Leviticus 7:23-25  Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Ye shall eat no manner of fat, of ox, or of sheep, or of goat. And the fat of the beast that dieth of itself, and the fat of that which is torn with beasts, may be used in any other use: but ye shall in no wise eat of it. For whosoever eateth of the fat of the beast, of which men offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord, even the soul that eateth it shall be cut off from his people.

S ymbolical of Praise and Worship

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not you heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 16:33 These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Proverbs 27:21 As the refining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.

P eace by the Blood of His Cross

Ephesians 2:11-19  Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were afar off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. And now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God.

T he Guidance Principle

Colossians 3:15  And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body, and be ye thankful.

Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Mark 4:39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Psalm 85:10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

There are several aspects that become operational in discerning the will of God.

The chief, the major factor, is internal peace.

The peace of God is to rule in our hearts. It is possible to be engaged in a vicious storm and yet experience the peace of God. And contrawise, it is possible to be in a peaceful setting and have the internal peace of our spirits disturbed.

The word rule, means to referee. When things are not right, our peace is agitated. It is like in any game of sports where a referee is employed; when an infringement of the rules is made, the referee blows the whistle, and the penalty is made. The game is disturbed, the check is made and the games proceeds.

So it is in the game of life!

When we are offside, or commit an action worthy of penalty, our peace is disturbed. God, the Holy Ghost, blows the whistle.

Let this be your major consideration in discerning guidance.

In the Garden of Eden there were two trees: the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and the tree of life.

In guidance, choose the latter, life-level.

Obedience Brings Peace

Just as surely as the sin offering (the reconciliation of God and man), and the trespass offering (restitution to God and man), thereby effecting peace; so also the forgiveness of sins, and correct relational procedures with God and man result in peace and tranquillity of the human spirit.

This is God's method. It is not only the best way, it is the only way.

Obedience to God's will brings peace!
