Sarah Received to Conceive Seed

Article Index

Hebrews11:11

Through faith also Sarah herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised,

Here are the Old Testament references in relation to that promise:

Genesis 17:15-19 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. And I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her. Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

Genesis 18:9-15 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.

Genesis 16:1-6 Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had a handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee,go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai. And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife. And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the Lord judge between me and thee. But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai deal hardly with her, she fled from her face.

Genesis 21:1-3 And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken. For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of the son that was born unto him, Isaac.

Genesis 21:12 And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.

The promise is amplified and applied in a greater manner in the New Testament:

Galatians 4:21-31 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law? For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which engendereth to bondage, which is Agar. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to the Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that barest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath a husband. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless what saith the Scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. So then, brethren, we are not the children of the bondwoman, but of the free.

What a Remarkable Woman Sarah Was!

She bore a child when she was ninety years of age: forty-five years past the age of having children. By faith her entire body was rejuvenated to that of a young woman, so much so that a heathen king desired to have her!

Abimelech would never have sought a ninety year old, bespectacled, wheel-chair ridden, hearing aid equipped, hair-dyed, false teethed, false eye-lashed, stoop shouldered, wrinkled, old age spotted, wigged woman.

Something had happened in her body.

God has made the same provision for every Christian believer.

Romans 8:11But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

The Holy Spirit will make alive, restore, rejuvenate every human body for those who believe.

Sarah's body was rejuvenated by sixty-five years.

Genesis 20:2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

What a picture of the Christian church. A two thousand year old woman whose relevance by the world has been seriously questioned. The Holy Spirit is moving in the church and will con-tinue to do so until the church is completely rejuvenated and again makes it mark on the desires and authorities of the world.

She will be completely restored, she will receive strength to conceive seed, she will be delivered of a child!

Ephesians 4: 11-13
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some pastors and teachers;
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.
The Amplified Version declares, that [we might arrive] at really mature manhood (the completeness of personality which is nothing less than the standard height of Christ's own perfection), the measure of the stature of the fullness of the Christ, and the completeness found in him.

The church is being restored to her former vigour, her former life, her former glory.

She will be elevated to a state of co-equality with Christ!

Consider These Faith Generators:

  • Really Mature Manhood
  • The Completeness of Personality
  • The Standard Height of Christ's Own Perfection
  • The Measure of the Fullness of Christ
  • The Completeness Found in Him
Don't allow the hideous monster of unbelief to bind you. Resist the temptation of the human brain to say this is an impossibility. Suffer not your lips to cause your heart to sin be declaring this is the ideal, this is a dream, it could never happen in reality.

Like Abraham, believe God! Against hope believe in hope. Don't be weak in faith. Stagger not at the promise of God (unbelief will cause you to stag-ger) through unbelief but like your father be strong in faith, give glory to God. Be fully persuaded that what God has promised, He is able to perform.

You are the Seed of Abraham

Demonstrate the faith of Abraham.

Galatians 3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Were God to grade sin, the vilest, most evil, grotesque would be UNBELIEF! This was the sin that denied God's people entry into the promised land. This is the very same sin that is resisting God's people today from entering the fullness of the promises of God.

Hebrews 4:1,2,6-11
Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, and of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, Today, after so long a time; as it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter that rest lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of the water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Ponder These Faith Generators:

  • A Glorious Church
  • Not Having Spot
  • Not Having Wrinkle
  • Not Having any Such Thing
  • It Should be Without Blemish
Allow the Holy Spirit to generate faith in your soul. Allow the word of God to be conceived in your spirit.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Luke 8:11 The seed is the word of God.

Like Sarah your mother, desire the word of God to be conceived in your spirit. By faith, like her, receive strength to conceive seed. Let the Holy Spirit sow this word in your heart.

Haggai 2:9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former.

John 8:39,43,44,47 If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Same Principle in the Birth of Jesus

Luke 1:30,31,35,37,38 And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. Then Mary said to the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
